I have now tried that as well, but unfortunately it did not solve the issue. A Turkish friend who uses an iPhone 16 Pro stated that they do not experience this problem, so I have started to wonder whether it might be related to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. No matter what I do, it automatically selects the first contact in alphabetical order and unfortunately does not allow me to choose another one using any gesture or any swipe action. Thank you. So you confirm the command with swipe down, the list pops up and still sees a swipe down. You could try doing a very short and fast swipe to confirm the command.
