It is about an issue I am experiencing with MBraille.
Greetings from Türkiye. Since my English is not sufficient, I am writing this message with the assistance of artificial intelligence. I wanted to mention this beforehand. I am a user of the main release version of MBraille and I do not use the beta version. However, I wanted to share some feedback as a main release user. When I want to call someone, send an SMS, or send a WhatsApp message using the MBraille command mode, if there are multiple contacts with the same first name or surname, MBraille automatically selects the first person and does not allow me to choose among the others by using left or right swipe gestures. For example, I have three contacts named Fatma A, Fatma B, and Fatma C in my contacts list. I want to send a message to Fatma C or call Fatma C. While in command mode, I enter the relevant command and type “WhatsApp Fatma”. MBraille directly announces that Fatma A has been selected and opens her chat window. It does not show the other contacts named Fatma and does not allow me to select them. Left and right swipe gestures do not work because it automatically selects Fatma A by itself. The same issue also occurs with contacts who have the same surname. For example, if I want to send a message to or call Can Kaya, Derya Kaya, or Murat Kaya, MBraille again selects the first contact in alphabetical order, which is Can Kaya. Are you experiencing this issue as well? In Türkiye, we generally save contacts with the first name followed by the surname, so I wanted to give examples in this format. Hello, It works on my iphone, and here is the gesture that I use: After typing SMS, then a space, then a name that can occur on multiple contacts, and performing the new line gesture, if you are still holding your phone in the same position, you can select the contact of your choice by swiping left or right and then select the desired contact by swiping down, but you still have to hold your phone in the same position you were using while typing, at least it works like this on my iPhone. Hello again, One thing to check maybe: I just realized that the command was case-sensitive. If by mistake you have entered a name in your contacts list which starts with a lowercase letter and the first letter you typed in your SMS command is in uppercase, the name starting with a lowercase letter will not be selected. Hello, all the names and surnames saved in my contacts begin with capital letters. I checked again and confirmed this, but the issue strangely continues exactly as before. It seems to be a technical problem, as I have had this issue for a long time and have not been able to resolve it despite everything I have tried. Thank you. Hello again. my last idea. Some people save their contacts 1st names and surnames in the same edit field instead of separating them each in a appropriate field. Is this your case maybe? If not, it's probably a bug but I cannot reproduce it here, and your iPhone is a recent one, so I don't know what could be causing this. Do you use special characters in Turkish that could make the application confused? This idea just came to my mind. Hope Harry can fix this or give you a solution. I am using version 26.2.1. If I put in a name for the SMS command that has more than one entry, I can flick through them by flicking from left to right, and go back up the list by flicking from right to left and when I land on the one I want, I flick down. However, I have several contacts whose first name starts with a letter c, if I enter just the c after sms, I get three options, none of whose name begins with c, but whose email address does start with c, like American Printing House fo the Blind, whose email is CS, for customer service… It ignores the Carol, Cassandra, and Christian… Is this a bug, or is it searching emails first before it checks names? Be sure to not flick down, that selects the one in focus. Hi all, My theory on what may be happening is that the list selector grabs the command mode downward swipe as well and thinks you want to select the first option in the list. So you confirm the command with swipe down, the list pops up and still sees a swipe down. You could try doing a very short and fast swipe to confirm the command. Hopefully then the list will not think you want to select the first. For now that is just a hypothesis, I will check in the code if I can find any other reason or fix. I have now tried that as well, but unfortunately it did not solve the issue. A Turkish friend who uses an iPhone 16 Pro stated that they do not experience this problem, so I have started to wonder whether it might be related to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. No matter what I do, it automatically selects the first contact in alphabetical order and unfortunately does not allow me to choose another one using any gesture or any swipe action. Thank you.
