v0.9.18 Feature Complete Release

Hi everybody, Dictation and App Launcher coming in this release. After initial download, the dictation happens fully on device, no network is required. Now I have all the big features done I had in mind, next remains only polishing, bug fixing, translations... Full release notes contain more stuff. Disclaimer, I made a lot of changes for this release, but have not tested extensively, so some tree shaking for bugs is to be expected. Oops, the dictation/record does not seem to work in my iPad, but it does work on my Android phone. I'm hoping it is because my iPad is too old and has only 2 Gb of memory. Dictation feature

Hi again, Kind of cool feature I was not even aware of: The record command (dictation), will output the text in the braille table language. When I tested it, my braille table was English, but I spoke my test phrase in Finnish. It translated my Finnish on the fly to English, and actually got it correct. :) Clever things, these machine intelligences. I would not rely on this to get the translation of any longer text correct though. Best regards, Harri

Hi, I made an attempt to fix the iOS click latency, but I'm not sure if clicks are heard at all now. At least my old iPad is silent, and haptics don't work either. But in theory it should work, so for you to test, as I don't have access to any other iOS devices at the moment. :) Best regards, Harri

Click sound latency and level

Hello Harry, Compared to the legacy Mbraille application, I notice a small latency with the click sound. It's no big deal but it's a little disconcerting. I'm using an iPhone. I don't know if it's the same on Android devices, but it would feel more comfortable if the sound was heard just as you release your fingers from the screen. Can you do this? Also could you add a click level setting? That would be great. I was feeling better with the legacy mbraille click level, but it might not suit everyone. What do you think? Contact lookup issues

Hi, Using latest 0.9.16 Issue 1 Contact partial name lookup is better. The list is easy to swipe through. One issue is that I can not see a clear way to get out of the list. So if I get 3 contacts in a list, but decide I don't want to message any of them, I'm not sure how to exit. Given that a swipe down is the gesture to select a contact, my instinct was to try a swipe up. That did not work. I tried various other things. I guess maybe swipe up would not be a good choice, because it sort of conflicts with the gesture to read the buffer. Maybe if the undo gesture worked in this list that could make sense? Or if "cancel" could appear at the end of the list? Issue 2 If I type firstname.lastname I get a failed to look up phone number message. Issue 3 Handling of multiple numbers is not working for me here. For contacts where I have a home and a mobile number, MBraille defaults to sending to home number. Using m:firstname gives me a "failed to look up phone number" message. The same command works as it should on legacy MBraille. If possible I think it should default to mobile number in cases where mobile and home are present, unless home is specified with h: Keith

sounds when in silent mode

Hi, Is it possible to still hear keyboard clicks and the beep for command mode when an Iphone is set to vibrate? Currently, with my phone on vibrate and no airpods I am not getting an indication of whether I'm exiting or entering command mode. If i have a headset in, I can still hear the beeps. For my own use case, I tend to leave my phone on vibrate at all times, to avoid accidentally disrupting people. There are times at home though where I listen to Voiceover through the phone speaker. It would be nice if I could still hear the command mode beeps and keyboard clicks. I suppose I could turn off the beeps for command mode as a workaround. Keith

I have three people with the first name John in my contacts. Writing the command, sms jogn parker grabs John Emenms instead. I tried putting the name in quotes. That did not work. calendar issues

Hi, I am having some issues with creating calendar events. I can't seem to create multi day events, either by using numerical dates or with natural language. In legacy MBraille I can type something like: .calendar Recording 09-03 13-03 I have tried various methods with the latest beta and can not get an event that lasts more than a day. Another issue is that it does not seem to like dates expressed like 09-03 If I am separating numbers with slashes I can omit the year, but can't seem to do that with hyphen's. Forgive any inconsistencies here with mmdd vs ddmm. I have tried things both ways. Keith
